Play with fabrics and furniture, decorating is really just adding layers or as I like to think of it as adding depth and personality to a room. If you've read my previous re-styling or re-decorating tips you'll already be working from a colour palette. Let's imagine this colour palette is soft grey tones with vivid white trims. Your 3-seater sofa is a dark charcoal linen and you have a natural jute rug... Now from here you'll add layers, start by thinking about the atmosphere you want to create. Do you live in coastal home? If so you'll likely choose nice sheer curtains with subtle tones to compliment your colour scheme or better yet some classic plantation shutters in white, this will keep your room feeling fresh and breezy. Equally when it comes to choosing your throw rugs and cushions you might choose a cable knit throw in a taupe or navy colour with coordinating cushions to lift the charcoal sofa and to tie in with the natural tones in your rug.
