This step is easy... Make sure you get the balance of colour right. As a rule of thumb I generally try to stick with a fairly neutral base and add up to two or three colours. If you find yourself with multiple shades and your not sure which ones to use my advice to you is stick two two neutrals and two colours to begin with, this way you should be able to maintain a tasteful balance in any room.
